Belmont Stake Horse Odds

The Belmont Stakes is the third and final leg of the prestigious Triple Crown Race for top 3-year-old thoroughbreds in America. After the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs and the Preakness Stakes at Pimlico Race Course, horse racing handicappers, bettors, and fans focus on Belmont. Bet Belmont Stakes Horse Race at Belmont Park

The first Belmont in the United States was not the famous stakes race or even the man for whom it is named. Rather, the first Belmont was a race horse that arrived in California in 1853 from his breeding grounds of Franklin, Ohio. The Belmont Stakes, however, are named after August Belmont, a financier who made quite a name and fortune for himself in New York politics and society. Obviously, Mr. Belmont was also quite involved in horse racing, and his imprint is even intertwined within the history of the Kentucky Derby.

Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes winner Big Brown arrived in New York on Monday afternoon undefeated and looking to attain super horse status with a win in the Belmont Stakes on June 7. Belmont Stakes Horse Winners

Triple Crown Horse Racing

The $5 million Visa Triple Crown Challenge is one of the largest payouts in sports and represents the supreme test of a Thoroughbred's speed and endurance.

The Triple Crown takes place every summer, beginning with the Kentucky Derby - which is run at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky on the first Saturday in May. The Kentucky Derby is followed by the Preakness Stakes. The Preakness takes place on the third Saturday in May at the Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, MD. The Belmont Stakes is the third and final race of the Triple Crown and is ran on the second Saturday in June at Belmont Park in Elmont, NY.

The grueling schedule of three races in 5 weeks at longer distances than most have run previously in their careers is probably the most difficult task any horse will face in his racing career.

Only eleven horses have won the elusive Triple Crown. The first winner of the Triple Crown was Sir Barton in 1919. Affirmed in 1978 is the most recent Triple Crown winner. There have been 43 horses who won two of the three races.
