The 143 running of
the Grade 1 Belmont Stakes will be held at Belmont Park on Saturday,
June 11, with first-race post at noon. ABC-TV and ESPN will provide
live coverage of the day’s events.
The third leg of the racing world's famed Triple Crown is the
Belmont - run in Belmont Park
in Elmont, NY. The race course is 1 1/2-mile, 12 furlongs, and is a
sand track. Because of its length (one lap around the enormous
Belmont main track), and because it is the final race of the Triple
Crown, it is called the "Test of the Champion". Most three-year-olds
are unaccustomed to the distance, and lack the experience, if not
the ability, to maintain a winning speed for so long. In a long race
such as the Belmont, positioning of the horse and the timing of the
move to chase for the lead can be critical. Bet on this years field
of three year old champions as they race for a place in history.

Belmont Trophy
The Belmont Stakes trophy is a Tiffany-made silver bowl, with cover,
18 inches high, 15 inches
across and 14 inches at the base. Atop the cover is a silver figure
of Fenian, winner of the
third running of the Belmont Stakes in 1869. The bowl is supported
by three horses representing
the three foundation thoroughbreds Eclipse, Herod and Matchem. The
trophy, a solid silver bowl
originally crafted by Tiffany's, was presented by the Belmont family
as a perpetual award for
the Belmont Stakes in 1926. It was the trophy August Belmont's
Fenian won in 1869 and had
remained with the Belmont family since that time. The winning owner
is given the option of
keeping the trophy for the year their horse reigns as Belmont
champion.

2010 Belmont
Stakes Winner
The winner was Drosselmeyer, and the two runners up were First Dude and Game on Dude. The third leg of the Triple Crown is the hardest, and the oldest of the three races. The race is a grueling mile and a half – and takes a lot of stamina from the horses to get through.
In the final leg of the race, First Dude, Game on Dude, and Interactif were in the top three. Legendary jockey Mike Smith pulled out all the stops and drove the horse through to finish at the top of the race.

2009 Belmont Stakes Race Results |
2009 Belmont
Stakes Winner: Summer Bird wins the Belmont Stakes 2009 and pushed in front to win with just a few hundred metres left to go in the race. The official time was 2 minutes and 27.54 seconds.
The biggest challenges were Dunkirk and Mine That Bird but they couldn't outrun Summer Bird this year. Dunkirk came second with Mine That Bird third, denying jockey Calvin Borel his personal Triple Crown win. Mine that Bird was the favourite at 6 to 5 odds. Summer Bird was also sired by 2004 Belmont winner Birdstone, just like Mine That Bird. |

2008 Belmont

miles in 2:29.65 and paid $79, $28 and $14.80. Five lengths
behind is Denis of Cork with jockey Robby Albarado aboard
returned $5.40 and $4.10. Anak Nakal, under jockey Julien
Leparoux, and Ready’s Echo, under jockey John Velazquez,
dead-heated for third and showed $7.60 and $6.20 respectively. |

2007 Belmont
Stakes Winner: The Belmont Stakes is called the "Run for the
Carnations" because of the blanket of white
carnations that are draped over the winner's neck. On June 9th,
2007 Rags to Riches won and was the first filly to win the race
since 1905 (and the third filly ever).
