The following are some general
guidelines followed by many pros which will give you a 'leg up' on
many other bettors (first four tips out of 11 basics):
1)When betting straight,
restrict your bets to win and show only.
2)As a general rule, bet
horses you like with odds of 5-1 or greater to win and odds of 5-1 or
less, to place.
3)Pay close attention to horses' recent performances. Form handicapping has a lot of merit, and
you face your best chances with a horse in top condition.

Kentucky Derby Results |
Kentucky Derby winner Street Sense An experienced
trainer, an inspired rider and the raw talent of a
powerful thoroughbred proved an unstoppable
combination Saturday, as 9-2 favorite Street Sense
rallied from far back to post a 2¼-length length
victory over Hard Spun in the 133rd Kentucky Derby.
The $2 million Kentucky Derby (G1), the first leg of
the Triple Crown and the ultimate target for every
horse owner, was contested at Churchill Downs on
Saturday before a crowd of 156,635. Sunny skies were
a welcome change from the wet conditions on Friday.
A maximum field size of 20 went to post, with Street
Sense sent off as the 9-5 favorite attempting to
become the first Breeders' Cup Juvenile winner to
come back to win the Derby. Undefeated Curlin, off
his win in the Arkansas Derby at Oaklawn, was the
5-1 second choice over Florida Derby winner Scat
Daddy at 7-1. Hard Spun, winner of the Lane's End
Stakes, was the 10-1 fourth choice over Wood
Memorial winner Nobiz Like Shobiz at 10.40-1 odds. |
